Visiting Students and Scholars
We welcome visiting veterinarians and veterinary students for a maximum three-week visit. Visitors are responsible for their accommodations, as well as health and liability insurance. If liability insurance is not available, visiting veterinarians and students will be able to observe, but not handle horses.
Third-year and fourth-year veterinary students enrolled in the mixed animal and equine clinical tracks at the VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine complete clinical rotations at the Equine Center for three weeks and six weeks, respectively. Center faculty members also participate in lectures in the pre-clinical curriculum.
VA-MD Vet Med students can learn more about the elective clerkship program on the college intranet (VT PID required).
We welcome visitors from around the world and value their contributions to our community. Interested veterinarians and veterinary students with a B-1 or WB visa may visit the Equine Medical Center to observe practice. There is no fee for students and veterinarians from other institutions to visit our hospital; however, all expenses related to obtaining a visa, housing, board, and transportation are the visitor's responsibility.
All requests to visit the Equine Medical Center are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and are approved only when openings are available in clinical and academic schedules. To request a visit, please email Sharon Peart at speart@vt.edu.
