Surgery resolves issues for Akhal-Teke colt
December 4, 2020
Silver Hill Thor’s Thunder, a 16-month-old Akhal-Teke colt owned by Samantha Ebert of Walkersville, Maryland, was referred to the Equine Medical Center in late October by veterinarian Megan Snyder, of Damascus Equine Associates, for removal of umbilical remnants, extraction of wolf teeth, and cryptorchid surgery.
James Brown, clinical associate professor of equine surgery, assisted by surgery resident Javier Martinez Lopez, performed all three tasks with the colt under general anesthesia. Thunder recovered uneventfully from surgery and, after returning home, completed two weeks of stall rest with frequent hand-grazing. He is now ready to be turned out!
Samantha-jo reports that Thunder’s suture sites look really good, and she hopes to start trotting him in hand around the property by the end of December.
Good luck with Thunder’s in-hand training, Samantha-jo!
