Magnolia overcomes lameness issue

Magnolia, a 10-year-old Tennessee walker-Rocky Mountain cross has been with her owner Alice for about 18 months.
On a snowy day in January 2020, Alice brought Magnolia to the Equine Medical Center for an outpatient appointment. For three frustrating months, the mare had continued to suffer lameness that nerve blocks, hoof testers, and X-rays couldn’t figure out.
Maureen Kelleher, clinical assistant professor of sports medicine and surgery, examined Magnolia and recommended an MRI, which confirmed that the mare had developed white line disease. To remove the infection, Kelleher cut out a large portion of Magnolia’s hoof, and Amy Sidwar-Seaver, Goodness Farrier Associates, glued on a shoe to help distribute weight evenly and encourage the hoof to grow back correctly.
Under Alice’s care, including lots of hand-walking and bandage changes, Magnolia is now back to normal work! And Alice is pleased to report that Magnolia feels so much better.
